The UN High Commissioner for Refugees has initiated an airlift to repatriate around 12,700 Angolans from Bas Congo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), marking the conclusion of a four-year repatriation program following the end of Angola’s civil war in 2002. Returnees receive vaccinations and financial aid upon arrival in Angola. Additionally, UNHCR has resumed repatriating southern Sudanese refugees from the northern Central African Republic (CAR) after a suspension due to conflict. The agency plans to repatriate 8,000 Sudanese by next year, with over 2,100 already returned. Challenges include limited infrastructure and skilled personnel, with efforts underway to rehabilitate healthcare and education facilities.
