UN Security Council Urges Ceasefire and Implementation of Peace Agreement in DRC

The UN Security Council, led by Ambassador Alfonso Valdivieso of Colombia, expressed deep concern over human rights violations and civilian displacement in Ituri, DRC, due to recent military activities involving various factions. They emphasized that such actions violated the Pretoria Accord and urged all parties to cease hostilities and implement the agreement promptly. Specifically, they called for an end to offensives, diplomatic dialogue, and cooperation with MONUC to establish a truce and facilitate humanitarian aid. The Council also condemned fighting in South Kivu and called for an end to material support for military activities in the region.
