Urgent Call to End Recruitment of Child Soldiers

UNICEF and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict issued a joint press release urging immediate action to halt the recruitment of child soldiers and to end grave violations against children in conflict zones. Despite progress made by governments worldwide, the recruitment of child soldiers remains a significant issue, particularly among armed groups. Tens of thousands of boys and girls are associated with armed forces and groups in over 20 countries, where they are subjected to extreme violence and exploitation. Urgent measures are needed to release children from armed groups and to provide them with access to education and support for their future well-being.
