UN Secretary-General Emphasizes Collaboration with CSTO, Urges Support on Afghanistan Crisis

UN Secretary-General Mr. Guterres highlighted the importance of collaboration between the United Nations and regional organizations, particularly the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), in addressing global challenges. The CSTO, established in 2002, has expanded its role beyond defense to include diplomacy, counter-terrorism, and maintaining regional peace and security. The UN has recognized and welcomed the cooperation between the two entities, signing a Joint Declaration on Cooperation in 2010. Mr. Guterres also expressed gratitude for CSTO member countries’ contributions to UN peacekeeping efforts and emphasized the need for further cooperation, especially in light of the crisis in Afghanistan. He underscored the importance of regional and inter-regional cooperation in addressing terrorism and humanitarian crises, highlighting the role of organizations like the CSTO in promoting stability and saving lives.
