The experts called for its closure, citing two decades of arbitrary detention, torture, and lack of accountability. They criticized delays in legal proceedings and inadequate medical care for aging detainees. The experts urged the US to repatriate detainees, provide reparations for torture victims, and hold accountable those responsible for authorizing and engaging in torture. They highlighted failures in the US judicial system and praised lawyers defending detainees’ rights.
